I am very fond of Asian food. If there is one dish I order much more often than others, it is precisely Chicken Gon Bao. When I recently received a request from someone who follows my page if I had a recipe for this, I just had to make this right away! There are a number of unknown ingredients for many, but you can get the ingredients at grocery stores with a good selection or the nearest immigrant store.
Step 1
Start by mixing the marinade and stir well.
Step 2
Cut the chicken into thin strips and mix well with the marinade. Put in the fridge until use. It can stand for a few hours, but not less than 15 minutes.
Step 3
Find a new bowl and mix all the ingredients for the sauce in a separate bowl. Stir well. It is smart to use cornstarch flour because then the sauce thickens afterwards when it boils. This is something that is done in many Asian dishes.
Step 4
Finely chop the other ingredients and place in bowls. This dish is made on high heat and then it is okay that everything is ready. You can buy Chinese red oil in the store, but it will be best if you make it yourself. Here is the recipe for my homemade Chinese red oil - The perfect chili oil!
Step 5
Find a frying pan and set on high heat. Add a little neutral oil, chili oil, garlic, chili and ginger. Bake for a few minutes.
Step 6
Add the chicken and continue to cook on high heat while stirring. This takes about 5 minutes. Pour over the sauce and continue to cook.
Step 7
Turn down the heat and simmer for 5-10 minutes. Pour in peanuts and spring onions 2 minutes before serving. Taste the sauce. If you think it is too strong or sour, take a little more of the sweet soy. Taste so you get a well-balanced dish.
Step 8
Now your Chicken Gon Bao is ready to be enjoyed. I serve it with cooked rice. Find a napkin because here it is possible that you get a little sweat in the forehead :-) Good luck.
