Ingredients

A wonderful meat pie with crispy puff pastry and lovely meaty with lots of good taste. This is so incredibly good! In Australia, this is a very popular dish. I have tried to make the recipe as authentic as possible, but taken some liberties for even better taste.

Step 1

Start by cutting the meat into large cubes and season with salt and pepper. Brown the meat in a pan with a little oil until you get a nice crust. Take the meat out and place on a plate.

Step 2

In the same pan, now fry the rest. Finely chop onion and carrot and pour into pan. Fry this on high heat until the onion gets a golden and nice color. Cut up the garlic and add.

Step 5

Add star anise, thyme, bay leaf and cumin. Turn down the heat. Now this should simmer on low heat for 1 hour with a lid. Remove the lid and cook on very low heat for another 2 hours.

Step 6

The sauce is ready when the meat is completely tender and can be torn apart. Pick out the meat and tear into pieces with two forks. Add back to the sauce.

Step 8

I use ready-made puff pastry (buy puff pastry with real butter). Grease the pans with a little oil and roll out the puff pastry. I use 2 plates at the bottom (per form) + 1 plate at the top. Put the dough in the pan and cut off extra puff pastry. Curl some parchment paper and add to the dough and fill with peas, rice or similar. This is done to be able to pre-bake the bottoms.

Step 9

Put the bottoms in a preheated oven at 180 degrees. Bake for 20 minutes. Take out the paper and fill it completely with the meat sauce. Brush the edge with beaten egg and apply a new layer of puff pastry. Press well together so the bottom and top are completely tight. Make a hole in the middle with a knife and brush the top as well. Now set the oven at 200 degrees. Now the meat pies should cook for another 25 minutes.

Step 10

Now it's just to enjoy !! Let the pies rest for 5 minutes before you release them from the pan and place on a plate. Serve with a fresh salad. This is so incredibly good. Good luck.
