Cheddar Sauce - Liquid cheese sauce for nacho chips and tacos.
In the United States, cheese sauce with cheddar is very popular.
Ingredients
- 200 gram American cheddar cheese
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp wheat flour
- 2,5 dl milk
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp cayenne pepper
- 0,5 tsp grated nutmeg
- 1 tsp neutral oil (sunflower oil)
You can buy cheddar dip or sauce in Norwegian shops, but I have never liked them. If you make your own cheese sauce, the taste will be so much better. A little liquid cheese sauce over the taco or as a dip for the nacho chips is very good sometimes.
Step 1
Start by melting the butter in a saucepan and add the flour. Stir well so you get a nice thickening.
Step 2
Pour in the milk and stir well so you get a smooth and nice sauce. This is just like a thick white sauce. Continue to cook this sauce while stirring for 5 minutes. This is so that the flour taste will be gone. Add cayenne pepper, grated nutmeg and salt to the sauce. Stir in.
Step 3
Buy a good American cheddar that you like the taste of well. There is quite a big difference in the taste of cheddar. Tear it up and pour in the sauce.
Step 4
Turn down the heat and stir well until the sauce has become completely smooth. It seems a little lumpy at first, but as soon as the cheese melts completely, this becomes a smooth, nice sauce. Add the oil and stir further.
Step 5
Now the sauce is ready to serve. Pour into a bowl of nacho chips or pour a little directly over the taco. This is a very good cheese sauce with a taste of cheddar.
