In Korean, "Bul" translates to fire / flames and "Dak" = chicken. Hence the name Buldak which means Firechicken in English. The name and color give you a clear indication that this is a really spicy dish! Along with the melted cheese, this is really goodies. This dish has become popular street food in recent years and after I tried it for the first time, I have fallen in love with this dish a bit. There are a few ingredients that are a little difficult to obtain, but go to an Asian market or immigrant store and they probably have it inside.
Step 1
Start by cutting the chicken breasts into cubes of about 1.5 cm x 1.5 cm. It is common to eat this dish with chopsticks and it is therefore okay that it is not too large pieces.
Step 2
Mix together all the ingredients for the sauce in a small blender. Run to a smooth sauce.
Step 3
Find a frying pan that can be put in the oven afterwards. Add a little neutral oil and fry the chicken quickly on high heat so it gets a nice crust. You do not need to fry the chicken now, because it will have plenty of time to finish later.
Step 4
Now turn down the heat on the plate to medium and pour over the good sauce. Mix well and cook for 5-10 minutes. If the sauce is thick, you can dilute with a little water. When the chicken has finished enjoying itself in the sauce, turn off the heat. Turn the oven to hot air grill 200 degrees or just the grill element.
Step 5
Break fresh mozzarella into coarse pieces and place around the pan on top of the strong chicken. This will melt under the grill afterwards.
Step 6
Watch when you grill so it does not burn, but 9-12 minutes under the grill it takes for the cheese to melt and you get some color on the dish. Now take the pan out and sprinkle over some finely chopped spring onions and herbs if you wish. I serve this dish with some lettuce leaves, but it is also common to serve with finely chopped cabbage or other vegetables. Now you can enjoy a delicious and spicy Firechicken. Good luck.
Step 7
Now take the pan out and sprinkle over some finely chopped spring onions and herbs if you wish. I serve this dish with some lettuce leaves, but it is also common to serve with finely chopped cabbage or other vegetables. Now you can enjoy a delicious and spicy Firechicken. Good luck.
