Sloppy Joe's is a classic American dish that was first served at Sloppy Joe`s bar in Key West. After this, it has come in many local versions and with small changes. I have based on the original Sloppy Joe version and made a lovely burger that is guaranteed to be popular for everyone. I serve this burger with french fries and pickles.
Step 1
We will start by making the spicy meat sauce. This takes some time to get the best possible taste and the result should be a fairly "dry" meat sauce so it does not overflow when we put it on burger buns afterwards. Find a frying pan or saucepan and add a little neutral oil. Finely chop the onion and paprika and place in the pan with the meat. Unlike the other meat sauce, I start here with a cold pan when the food is in. This makes the minced meat less lumpy. Turn on medium + heat and stir regularly.
Step 2
Now add crushed garlic and cook for a few more minutes.
Step 3
Mix the ingredients for the sauce and pour over the minced meat. Bake for 5 minutes and add the water. Turn down the heat and simmer for 30-40 minutes until you have a "dry" consistency. Finish with a little butter for extra good taste and make the sauce even shinier. Season with salt and pepper.
Step 4
Fry the hamburger buns a little so they get a crispy crust. Add the meat filling and top with a good slice of cheddar cheese. Serve with french fries, pickles and a little mayonnaise.
