Swedish favorite !! - How to make meatballs with cream sauce and potatoes

This is a dish I think everyone has tasted! This dish is extremely common in Sweden and you can buy it everywhere. Unfortunately, IKEA has ruined many's views on how this dish should taste.

  • 400 gram minced meat
  • 2 dl breading flour / bread crumbs
  • 1 pcs large onion
  • 1,5 dl cream
  • 1,5 dl milk
  • 1 pcs egg
  • 2 tsp grated nutmeg
  • 3 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp white / black pepper

Cream sauce

  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp wheat flour
  • 4 dl ready-mixed meat broth / broth
  • 2 dl cream
  • salt and pepper

This is actually a very good dish when you make it yourself. It is not difficult and is clearly a favorite among the little ones. It does not beat the Norwegian meatballs with brown sauce, but meatballs with cream sauce is a delicious everyday dish.

Step 1

Start by cutting the onion into thin strips and fry in a pan with a little oil until the onion is shiny and soft.

Pour the onion into a bowl together with the breading flour, milk, cream, nutmeg and pepper. Smooth this mixture with a hand mixer or food processor and put in the fridge.

Put the cold minced meat in a food processor and mix in the salt. Stir until the meat gets a sticky consistency. Add the cold onion mixture little by little and run until you get a smooth and nice stuffing.

Find a baking tray and place on baking paper. Make small bowls with damp hands and place the meatballs on the baking paper.

Bake at 200 degrees for 20 minutes. If you have the option of steam, run on with a little steam in the oven. You can also put a bowl of water in the oven to get some moisture. When they have cooked for 20 minutes, they are ready to serve.

If you make a large portion, you can freeze the rest for another dinner. Try this recipe and maybe this will be one of the regular everyday dinners in the future. Serve with mashed potatoes, cream sauce and cranberry jam. Good luck!
